Reducers and variators are generally used in conjunction with electric motors. Without the use of an inverter, the output rpm of an electric motor are fixed even if they depend on the number of poles of the latter and the mains frequency. Since the number of poles is a construction characteristic of the motor and the fixed network frequency depends on the geographical area in which you are located, it is necessary to use variators and reducers to have a number of revolutions more usable by the end user ( for example a pump).
The variators also allow the variability of the output revolutions (often today they are replaced by inverters coupled to gearmotors or directly to motors) while the reducers are limited to a fixed number of revolutions chosen in advance.
